I know a lot of you were confused yesterday by my strange posts. Well, yesterday was Zombie Blog day. Participants were to blog as if they were in a George Romero-type zombie uprising. My mind kept jumping to Shaun of the Dead more than any of the Romero movies, especially the part where Shaun told Ed not to say the "zed-word". So of course I tried to avoid using it at all.

I noticed it first on flewellyn's page, then noirem joined in. By the end of the night, there were a few more people on my friends list, and noirem, Ooka, Bugged, and snowdrake, plus a few others, were staying in character on IRC. It made for one very interesting night. It was odd, as I was driving home, I was trying to figure out how I was going to do the entries, and my mind's eye could imagine the fictional scenario I was creating on top of the real world. The accident that morning was real (as evidenced by the link I provided) along with the traffic snarl (grr, stupid drivers), but everything after that, obviously, was a figment of my lil brain. The roommate and the cats are perfectly fine.

I hope you all enjoyed my warped mind. :-D

It looks like they're taking us towards the mountains. It's odd looking back on the city. You can see the light from the fires everywhere, and the military aircraft flying overhead. Hopefully we'll get some real answers when we get where we're going. It's sad, there seems to be only about 500 people leaving the city. I know there are still people hiding, but they're estimating only 1/6th of the city survived.

I'm out for the night. I'm going to get a bit of shut-eye while other people drive. Good luck to all those who are left.

Godspeed and god bless. May he/she/it have mercy on our souls.

Today's madness has been brought to you by the letters Z and B.

Shaun: Don't say that!
Ed: What?
Shaun: That!
Ed: What?
Shaun: The zed-word. Don't say it!
Ed: Why not?
Shaun: Because it's ridiculous!

We made it to the safe house with minimal problems, though my car will never be the same again. I'm afraid to look at the front bumper and see if there are any bits and pieces. It looks like we made it just in time, too. There's a caravan headed out at 10pm. They said that they're taking us to a safe place out of the city before they quarantine it. I just hope we have a house to come back to.

The authoritahs here don't have a whole lot of answers for us. They think it has to do with the wreck this morning, but from seeing everyone else's reports, I'm not sure if that's the whole story. Thank goodness they haven't put a gag on us yet, or taken my laptop, but we'll see what happens when we get where we're going.

Driving through town was scary. Things have gotten worse since I was last outside. There are fewer people running and more.. shuffling. Quite a few people weren't getting out of our way. In fact, there were a lot more coming for us. A lot more gunfire, a lot more fires which cast an eerie glow on everything. And with the lights all out (thank goodness for laptops and cell phones), it was really weird.

Gotta run, we're about to head out. Good luck, everyone.

Oh crap oh crap oh crap. The roommate had disappeared into his room shortly after my last post. About an hour later, Sammy disappeared. Sean went to talk to the roommate, and opened the door to..

God, I can't even type it. It just turns my stomach. Anyway, the roommate lunged for Sean. Luckily Sean had the claymore in hand...

I don't know what we're going to do. The power's getting worse. It's off more than its on. I'm hearing gunfire and sirens from a few streets down. The radio is mentioning safe houses, so we're heading there. Wish us luck, we're going to need it. I just hope the military doesn't shoot at us.

The roommate went to take the trash out when our neighbor... shuffled up. He thought she wanted to talk to him about something, but then she went and bit him! I heard him scream out, so I grabbed a sword off the wall, and went to check it out. The neighbor had latched on pretty good, and wasn't letting go. I started hacking at her with the sword until she let go.. which wasn't until most of her head was gone. Yuck. His wound looks pretty bad. I hope he's not infected with whatever she had, but I've doused the wound with lots of rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide, so hopefully he's fine. I'm not sure what to do with the body, though.

Sean just made it home. He said that there's several fires from what he could so, a few downtown, some to the east of us. The rain seems to handling some of it. I was afraid he wasn't going to make it home, but most of his drive is interstate. He said the road was almost completely cleared except for a few cars.. and a few bodies. :/ He saw a barricade a little ways down the road once he got off at the exit.

The lights have flickered a few times. I hope it stays on for the rest of the night.

I went creeping around the stores in my area, a short sword at my side, to see what the situation is. I was almost afraid to poke my head into the mall, but it's oddly deserted. Not even any looting going on. Every once in awhile, I'd hear people running, and some far away screams. Something's on fire somewhere, but I can't tell where. But the military is here. I don't think they saw me, but they were going down the street with one of those loudspeakers urging people to stay in their homes. I saw some people try to approach the caravan, only to be shot down. I don't know what's going on, but isn't good.

It was eerie coming home. It's bad enough after a summer rain with the steam rising from the asphalt, but this.. this was worse. Both in Rock Hill and Charlotte, there were random cars abandoned in the roads with their doors opened. I didn't see a whole lot of people, but the few I did see were running fairly fast. The interstate was fairly clear, but off the interstate took awhile to navigate. I'm not seeing the normal planes heading for the airport, too. Most of the ones in the sky seem to be military planes.

Almost makes me wish for an M16. Guess my swords will have to do. All of the doors are locked tight.. gotta go check the windows.

There was a lovely accident this morning, where a tractor trailer went over the median and blocked several lanes of the interstate. I went another way to work, but traffic was still backed up. I left a few minutes early, but I was still 15 minutes late to work. Ugh.

I'm wondering about that accident now, though. I'm hearing strange things from the coworkers are coming in to work. In fact, a few have called out, saying they're too scared to leave their houses. I can't find anything on the news sites. Guess I'll have to wait until I leave here.

The view out the window is weird. A lovely grey rainy day that will water my plants. But why in the world are there people staggering around outside?

Wee, I'd forgotten about this. Now I can use it again!
